There is already a lot of great work done by Muslims to address the issue of violence within families. To make long-lasting, significant change, we must stop the violence before it occurs. To do that, attitudes and behaviors in our communities must change. This is where teams come in. We must work together to build public will and mobilize our communities to prevent domestic violence.

Teams don’t need to be made up of people with professional expertise in the issue of domestic violence. Instead, what is needed are friends and neighbors committed to working together to make a difference. Project Sakinah provides informational resources, collaboration and support for teams working on the issue.

The problem of domestic violence has been around a long time. We aren’t going to solve it quickly. It will take consistent, long-term effort. We need to work together, to be supports for one another, and to keep strengthening, over time, our capacity to effectively deal with the issue. Please join us.

We need teams to educate our friends and neighbors, to hold ourselves and our institutions accountable for their attitudes and behaviors that may enable the cycle of abuse to continue. By teaming up we can share ideas and resources and strengthen our voice. The voices of good people are not always so easy to hear and we must work together in order to be effective and to be heard

Explore the teams. See what they do. What they have achieved. How they grew. You don't have to do anything. Just give them some time and see wht they have to offer. After time, you may see yourself becoming involved ad become surprised what you, and your peers can accomplish.

By sharing with others what we are doing, we can learn from each other and inspire each other. We hope that you will join efforts already going on, or start your own team to make a difference.

If you already are part of a team please register your team here and make a page for it to assist others in finding you and learning about your work.
